Vetiver

The health benefits of Vetiver Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties as an Anti-inflammatory, antiSeptic, Aphrodisiac, Cicatrisant, Nervine, Sedative, Tonic and Vulnerary substance.

Vetiver is famous all over the Indian Subcontinent. People may not understand it since many of them are unfamiliar with this name. Instead, it is popularly known 'Khus' or 'Khus-Khus' and it is extensively used in perfumes, food and beverage industries.

The botanical name of vetiver is Vetiveria Zizanoides or Andropogon MUricatus. This grass has a very pleasant, mild, earthy, and musky smell which has a cooling effect on the body and the mind. The dried grass and its roots are used to thatch the side panels of the water based room and window coolers since it cools and adds fragrance to the moist air.

It is also used to thatch roofs of earthen houses and mattresses. It is also used as curtains on the doors and windows, which, apart from cooling and scenting the rooms, keeps Insects away. That is why its demand rises excessively during the summer, particularly in humid regions like India and neighboring countries.

The essential oil of vetiver is obtained through steam distillation of its roots and its main components are alpha vetivone, benzoic Acid, beta vetivone, furfurol, vetiverol, vetivene and vetivenyl vetivenate. Its essential oil is also used extensively in the perfume industries, including perfumes for the body, room fresheners, and coolers, as well as cosmetics, soaps, oils and as a flavoring agent in beverages, sorbets, and foodstuffs.

Health Benefits of Vetiver Essential Oil
This essential oil is very popular in Aromatherapy and has many medicinal properties, which are described in greater detail below.

Anti-inflammatory Properties: The very soothing and cooling effects of this essential oil calms and pacifies all sorts of Inflammation. It is particularly good at providing relief from Inflammation in both the circulatory and Nervous system. It is also found to be an appropriate treatment for Inflammation caused by sunStroke, dehydration, and loo, which is the name given to very hot and dry winds prevalent during summer in the dry South Asian regions.

Cicatrisant Properties: Cicatrisant agents are substances that speed up the eradication or disappearance of Scars and other marks on the Skin. It also promotes the growth of new tissues in the affected places which replace the dead and discolored tissues and helps achieve a uniform look. Anxiety-relief roll-on: To a roll-on bottle, add 4 drops bergamot and 2 drops vetiver and 1 tablespoon jojoba oil. Apply the blend to wrists and temples 2�3 times a day when feeling anxious or panicked.

Relaxation Body Oil

2 tablespoons jojoba oil
5 drops vetiver
4 drops neroli essential oil
3 drops lavender essential oil

Pour the jojoba into a one-ounce (30-ml) glass bottle. Add the essential oils. Shake gently. Use the blend for self-massage at the end of your day.

Stress Relief Blend

To a 5-ml colored glass dropper bottle add these essential oils:

30 drops vetiver essential oil
30 drops spikenard essential oil
30 drops chamomile essential oil
30 drops rose geranium essential oil
30 drops bergamot essential oil

Cap bottle tightly and shake. Let synergize for 8+ hours before using. Diffuse a few drops or use to make pleasing perfume oil or Aromatic mist.

3 drops vetiver essential oil
1 drop rose absolute or essential oil
1 drop sandalwood essential oil
1 drop patchouli essential oil

Uplifting Diffuser Blend

This blend reduces the feelings of distraction and promotes Concentration, especially while studying or focusing on a task.

3 drops vetiver essential oil
2 drops frankincense essential oil
2 drops cedarwood essential oil.

Scalp Conditioning Blend

To a 5-ml colored glass dropper bottle add these essential oils:

30 drops vetiver
30 drops ylang ylang essential oil
30 drops rosemary essential oil
30 drops carrot seed essential oil
30 drops rose geranium essential oil

Cap bottle tightly and shake. Let synergize for 8+ hours. Use a drop in your favorite Shampoo as a carrier.

You can also add a few drops of the blend to your favorite carrier oil and use as a Conditioner. Leave the Conditioner on your Scalp for up to an hour, and then Shampoo your Hair thoroughly.
